Parish Council Chairman’s Note for June 2021

Hello everyone.

I hope you are all enjoying a little more freedom and the road back to a new normal. There seems to be a promise of some nice weather so lots to look forward to over the coming month. I am delighted to confirm that I was re-appointed as Chair at the May annual meeting with Anthea Byrne as my vice chair and we all look forward to being of service over the coming year.

Parish Council business continues as usual, with meetings being held face to face from 3rd June 2021 at the village hall.

Charnwood Borough Councillor James Poland ~ May Report

On Thursday 6th May County Council elections took place and I am very honoured to have been re-elected to serve as your County Councillor for a further four years.  Thank you very much to everyone who supported me and I look forward to continuing my work for all residents in the years ahead. The other vote which took place on the 6th May was for Leicestershire’s Police & Crime Commissioner and that was won by the Conservative candidate Rupert Matthews.  I’ve known Rupert for many years and believe he’ll do a great job with a focus on rural policing, I look forward to working with him on the policing issues which matter most to Rearsby.

Parish Council Chairman’s May Note

Hello everyone.

I hope you all enjoyed Easter and the wonderful Easter gardens displayed in the Churchyard as well as enjoying the odd egg or two. We were personally blessed with a new granddaughter on Easter weekend which made it even more special for us and the family.

As we look forward to what is known as the merry month of May and see further optimism with lookdown easing and more social interaction with friends and family, please remain mindful of the guidelines and respect others who may find it more difficult to get used to the changes after many months of isolating.

I wanted to start my note with a small tribute to Peter French who sadly passed away in April.

Peter French

The Parish Council were deeply saddened by the sudden death of ex-Councillor Peter French during the past week.

Peter was a tremendous supporter of the Parish Council and servant to the Community over many years, including a term as Chair.

He had a wealth of knowledge about the village and wider parish of Rearsby and cared passionately about every aspect of the village from the playing fields to the defibrillator.

Peter’s commitment to our community was second to none and his calm but orderly approach to everything he did will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Our thoughts are with Peters family at this time.

Planning Information

The Parish Council have recently met with representatives of the trustees who own the land at the top of Gaddesby lane and were advised that a planning application is to be submitted over the next few weeks for up to 60 new houses to be built on the field to the right of the footpath which goes through to the bypass. Residents are encouraged to view the application when it appears on the Charnwood BC website and make comments where applicable.

Due to housing supply within the Charnwood area being under the targets set by the government we can expect to receive more applications over the coming months, be assured the PC will scrutinise each application and determine its suitability for the parish and keep residents aware of new applications, ongoing issues, and concerns.

Residents have also approached the Parish Council regarding an area of land that has been fenced off, to the rear of William Everard Close adjacent to the track from Mill Lane and the public footpath.

At the time of writing, there are ongoing discussions about the ownership of this land and the legality of the land being fenced and claimed as an extension to the curtilage of an existing dwelling.

The Parish Council have continued to be clear that they absolutely do not support this action and are working with the Borough Council enforcement and legal departments to try and reach some form of resolution.
